Saw "Back from Eternity" as a child when it was new and loved it immediately. Subsequent viewings over the years have only made me like it more. The whole cast is good - but I reserve a special fondness for Anita Ekberg. And - you're right - director Farrow really lets her uniquely endearing qualities shine through. This was RKO's third shot at the story. I don't like the original '39 version at all. There was a good 40's remake in Spanish, filmed at the studio's Mexican facility. It's called "Los Que Volvieron" and sometimes shows up (subtitled) on TCM. Anita's role is played by the great Chilean star Malu Gatica and she's excellent. But I think the story's '56 incarnation is the definitive one. And I'd say a good deal of its power and appeal comes from Ekberg's lovely contribution.
